Learn how to sing

Singing is a part of our everyday lives.

You would find people who would sing out each time they are cooking their meals.

There are those who would sing when they are happy and then there are also those who sing just for the sake of singing.

Everyone knows how to sing. But not everyone can sing the right way.

That is why you should learn to sing properly.

To learn how to sing well is going to be an advantage because you would be able to handle songs better.

Whether you sing professionally or just sing for fun, it is important that you preserve your voice so that it could last a lifetime.

The key to a voice that lasts long is by having a clean and healthy lifestyle.

Avoid drinking too much, smoking or taking drugs. These can hurt your voice and you definitely would not want that to happen.

This is the first lesson when you learn how to sing.

To learn how to sing properly, whether you are a professional or an amateur, training is needed.

Singing may be simple but it sure does require training. You will need a local trainer that can coach you in learning to sing properly.

There are also online tutorials available on line like Yvonne deBandi’s Singing is Easy and also the Emily Mander’s tutorial Singorama.

Before singing, you should look at your posture first.

Be sure to stand up straight and relaxed. Your feet should be apart and along the width of your hips.

One of your feet should be placed forward. Your shoulders should be kept back. It is also very important that you keep your chest out. Keep your arms on the side.

Breathing is also an important part when you learn how to sing.

Good breathing during singing utilizes your diaphragm, abdomen and spine and they become your breathing support.

After breathing, exhale. Make sure that you create a sound that seems like the hissing of a snake. This way, you can keep your midsection open.

This enables you to sustain notes longer.

Your posture and breathing are just a part of the support so that you can sing pretty well.

The most important thing is the singing technique. Your vocal tone originates from three areas.

The chest is the first part. The pharynx is the second area and this is made up of your throat and mouth.

The last one is the head and it includes your sinuses. In reaching higher notes, you should make use of your “head voice”.

In singing the lower notes, you should use your “chest voice”.

Most of the time, you will use what a voice coach calls a mixed voice.

This is a combination of your head voice and the voice that comes from your pharynx.

Another term for this is known as mask resonance. It is called such because it is said that you will feel the vibrations on the area as if you were using a Halloween mask and it covered your face.

Here is a simple exercise in feeling the mask resonance.

Take a deep breath, sing hoo or hee starting from the highest note that you can reach and then work your way down until you get to the lowest that you can muster.

While doing this, you should be able to feel a vibration in your soft palate.

The soft palate is the roof part of your mouth and it is in that area you find right between your nose’s bridge and your eyes.

Always remember that in learning to sing, practice is the best thing to do. Master these basics and singing should be a walk in the park for you.
